Threads of Tradition

People – 3 min

What happens when the Industrial Revolution hits you 200 years late? This is the story of Tamizh Arivu and her family, who live next to the ancient Darasuram Hindu Temple, a UNESCO heritage site in South India. They are from the Saurashtrian Tamil craftsman community and among the last handloom weavers in India. They recount their intergenerational struggle, exacerbated by the pandemic and automation, to uphold their art.
