Human activities are threatening our marine life and habitats. The Global Ocean Treaty is an international agreement which is currently under negotiation by governments at the United Nations that seek to properly protect the high seas from industrial fishing and other destructive human activities. The fifth effort to pass the Global Ocean Treaty failed, due to countries being unable to compromise on an agreement. The treaty is crucial; it would expand protected areas, bring a positive impact on our marine ecosystems, and help fight the climate crisis.
